Video transfers from Quad and 1" formats

Quad

Ampex VR-1200B with Merlin Engineering Works modifications
and Digital TBC

One of the most complicated devices ever designed in the 20th Century using electronics, pneumatics and mechanics, the Quadruplex 2" videotape recorder was invented in 1956 by the Ampex Corporation.

We have completely restored several of these vintage machines in order to transfer old recordings for future use,

Our business is designed to give users a way to migrate their quad tapes to a digital or optical format that can be played everywhere and saved for the future. Let us know how we can help.

Please call or write for more info.

The VPR-3. The finest 1" VTR ever made.

Complete restoration brought these giants back to original factory specs to give you the finest image and sound quality.

With air guides to protect your master recordings, you can't get a better playback. Plus the Zeus TBC removes video errors and enhances image quality.

As with our 2" playbacks, we made these rates very reasonable.

HIGHER QUALITY TRANSFERS

With our Accom D-Bridge digital decoder, we can now give you the finest quality dubs
from a composite source like Quad, Type C, U-Matic and D-2/3. The D-Bridge uses
a digital 3D filter to separate the chroma from the luminance and it does it better than
anything else available. No "hanging dots" like a comb filter would create and no
cross-color from luminance interference and no softening of the image like a notch filter
would do. It's the best decoder ever invented. And we use it on all our composite transfers.

We can take analog components to feed a Betacam SP or take digital SDI to feed a Digital Betacam VTR,
DVCAM or DVD. For D-2, we take the composite digital signals directly to the B-Bridge, bypassing any analog
conversion. Also, we can take the component signal directly to Firewire and digitize the video into any
format, compressed or uncompressed and deliver it to you on a hard drive or DVD.

BETTER AUDIO

We have just installed a New-Old Stock audio play head on our Ampex/Merlin VTR.
This new head from the 1970s does a great job in reproducing your sound tracks.
With improvements we have made to the audio electronics, we can get response
all the way out to 16.5 kHz, much better than factory specifications. Your audio
will sound great.

10 BIT PRECISION

We can digitize your video at 10 bits for direct capture to a hard drive or for feeding Digital Betacam,
DV or to DVD. For example, we can take Quad composite video to the Accom D-Bridge and decode it with
10 bit precision and output it at 10 bits digital for uncompressed capture using our AJA/Final Cut Studio system.

Or we can compress the video with just about any codec on earth, including DVCPRO, XDCAM EX, DV, ProRes 422,
IMX, PhotoJPEG, MPEG-2, MPEG 4 and H.264 at either 4X3 or 16X9.

Audio is sampled at 24 bits, 48k, 20k to 20kHz, 100 db dynamic range.

And we can take your digital file from a hard drive and record it to Digital Betacam, staying digital all the way.

THE BEST U-MATIC

We've added several Sony BVU-950 VTRs to make the best 3/4" transfers. With their built-in TBC and
digital noise reducer, these best and last of the Sony U-Matic series machines make your tapes look fantastic.

Noise is reduced and ringing eliminated, two of the problems inherent to many 3/4" VTRs.
They also play your SP tapes with outstanding quality.

OUR PROCESS

We examine each tape as it is received and check it for SSS (Sticky Shed Syndrome) to make sure it is playable. We then clean and
fast forward the tape to remove any loose oxide and foreign particles. We then transfer to the format of choice and then playback and
check the dub. After making sure the dub is perfect, we send the media to you for approval. Once approved, you send us a check, money order or PayPal.
We then return your master tapes.

The only extra charge is $25 if the tape needs to be baked (about 20% do) and return shipping, which we bill at our cost.

You don't have any forms to fill out, just email us with the type of tape or file you would like the tape transferred to and your return address.

When comparing companies, ask to see images of their actual machines.
Ask about their restoration experience.
